Gears of Comodule - Rollo Telliskivi, an NPI Manager, transforming connected e-bikes from concept to reality

Rollo from Comodule IoT for e-bikes

Meet Rollo, a New Product Integration Manager with golden hands. Whenever you need to build or fix something, he’s up for it. Not only does he play around with e-bikes at work, but he also builds bikes in his spare time. Rollo enjoys nature and believes that micromobility plays a role in preserving the precious beauty around us.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

“I was lucky to grow up in the middle of nature. As a kid, I spent a lot of time wandering around forests and catching fish from a lake. Thanks to this I have a lot of respect for nature and as I grew up I was baffled by how we treat the resources and life around us.”

“In addition to being outdoors a lot, I’ve always had the urge to take things apart to see what’s inside. For example, once I opened up a broken vacuum cleaner, unfortunately, it worked even less after my inspection. I never really lost my curiosity or care about our future. Those are the main drivers for me.”

What do you do in Comodule?

“My role is called New Product Integration manager. Let’s imagine you want to turn on the lights on your e-bike by pushing a button in an app. There is a complex chain of actions that has to happen for this to work. This is basically what I do, I make sure that the IoT system is set up so that the e-bike behaves how it’s meant to. On top of that, I find the suitable cabling for the IoT modules to fit a specific e-bike and make sure production happens.”

“It isn’t the easiest position but definitely one of the most interesting ones. I get to play around with e-bikes daily and bring ideas to reality. “

How did you end up in the micromobility sector? Why do you like it?

“Before joining Comodule, I’ve tried many different jobs. I‘ve been a builder in Ireland, strawberry farmer in Estonia, marine engineer sailing around the globe, and even a power plant specialist in Denmark. Thankfully I ended up at Comodule. “

And we’re thankful too!

“I like the micromobility sector because I believe in its potential to change things for the better and as a bonus, I’m really into e-bikes. Can you imagine a world where your bike will no longer be stolen? Or a city where you’re your only option for commuting isn’t a car? These are simplified examples of what Comodule is working towards and I support this purpose. “

How would you describe working at Comodule?

“I really enjoy it. Although the work gets hard sometimes, it’s always fun.“

Where do you see the micromobility sector going?

“I can see the sector booming, new and improved vehicles are popping up almost daily. The main driver isn't the fact that it’s a more economical or rational choice for transport but because e-bikes and e-scooters are fun to ride. If people have a choice to effortlessly cruise through the park with an e-scooter and smell the blossoms versus sitting in an overheated car, they will lean towards the nicer option. After a while, they see it makes more sense and is also easier on the wallet.”

Any hobbies?

“As if it’s not enough to work with e-bikes daily at the office, I build e-bikes in my spare time also. I enjoy tuning and customizing different vehicles. I’ve even built my own electric cargo bike. I’ve also built gaming PCs. Repairing things and taking them apart still seems to be the underlying interest. In the summertime, I usually work with a tractor.”

“Other than that, I also like to educate myself on ancient cultures and economics.”

Rollo redesigned and built this beautiful blue cargo bike from a bike frame found in a junk yard. Circular economy at it’s finest!

How do you commute to work?

“Mostly I cycle to work. When the weather is really bad, I take the car, but to put it in perspective, my car's mileage was only 3000km last year.”

Fun fact about you that no one knows yet?

“I learned to cycle when I was in 4th grade. We had a bicycle trip planned and at first, I bailed - I didn’t have a bike and I didn’t know how to ride one either. My friend offered his bike to me and I was running out of excuses. I put on a poker face until the trip, hoping something would come up and excuse me from attending. When the dreaded day came, I took the bike, jumped on it, and just cycled. I guess it was meant to be.”
