Comodule and I LOCK IT join forces to take e-bike security to the next level

I LOCK IT smart lock

Comodule is cooperating with haveltec GmbH, the manufacturer of smart bike lock I LOCK IT to deliver an integrated security solution for e-bikes. The security features of our IoT solution and the smart lock come together in the Comodule White Label App, providing a seamless user experience.

Connectivity as a safety measure against theft

Connectivity plays an increasing role in e-bike security as it provides several anti-theft features. The White Label App, provided with Comodule IoT solution enables e-bike owners and sharing operators to:

  • track the live location of their e-bikes

  • receive movement alert notifications

  • disable the e-bike system from a distance

As the vehicle can be tracked, the connectivity makes the e-bike less attractive for theft. When the e-bike happens to go missing, the owner can rely on up to 7 days of autonomy of the IoT device, meaning there is plenty of time to find the vehicle.

A smart lock that alerts when an e-bike is being tampered with

I LOCK IT is a smart frame lock with several advanced features. The lock has an integrated alarm that adds an extra layer of security in case of theft. If the smart lock detects unauthorized movement of the e-bike, an acoustic alarm on the lock is triggered, scaring off potential thieves. In addition, a warning message is sent to the owner’s smartphone.

IoT integration offers a seamless user experience

So far, most smart e-bike components have been offered as a stand-alone system. Integrating I LOCK IT with Comodule’s IoT solution opens up a whole new level of security, combining the anti-theft features of the IoT and the I LOCK IT smart lock.

The smart lock and the IoT module communicate with each other making the user experience seamless. The rider can control all the e-bike's functions, including the lock from the Comodule White Label App. As a new feature, the rider can now lock and unlock the I LOCK IT smart lock directly from the Comodule App, therefore avoiding the need to use a separate app or a physical key. Needless to say, the communication between the two devices is encrypted, keeping the access to the lock in the hands it’s meant to be.

“Connecting different components with diverse interfaces is a complex task and is often underestimated. It is worthwhile for the ease of use and the enhanced security which can be achieved. In the end, the connected bike system should bring a clear advantage for the cyclist and the manufacturer. With the many years of experience of both partners, the respective project team was able to achieve a great result” says Markus Weintraut, Managing Director and Head of Software Development at haveltec GmbH.

The integrated security system is now available for e-bike manufacturers and sharing operators. The solution is already being implemented with several e-bike manufacturers and the first e-bike models with the I LOCK IT integrated into Comodule’s IoT solution will launch at the beginning of next year.

Shared mission to improve e-bike riding experience

“We are always looking for ways to improve Comodule’s connectivity solution and create more peace of mind to both the cyclists and the e-bike operators. Improving vehicle security is a crucial part in empowering the e-bike movement and we are glad to cooperate with haveltec GmbH and together build the best possible solution to keep e-bikes safe,” says Sven Bernhardt, Head of Sales at Comodule.

Haveltec GmbH was founded in 2015 and is focused on the development of smart security devices for bikes and e-bikes. Haveltec cooperates with established bike manufacturers as well as with newcomers in the industry, sharing providers, and end consumers to make the biking experience safer and more comfortable for all kinds of cyclists.

Active in the micromobility business since 2014, Comodule is a pioneer in connectivity. Comodule offers end-to-end IoT solutions to e-bike manufacturers and shared mobility operators and has connected more than 350 000 electric vehicles across the globe.
